Artemis Optical
Artemis Optical design and manufacture advanced optical film coatings that enable cutting-edge applications within the aerospace, defence and healthcare industries.
The company’s technologies are integrated into the “helmet-mounted displays” that are commonly used in military fighter jets. Artemis applies advanced coatings on to the plastic visors that are integrated into the pilot’s helmet. This creates an augmented reality display system that presents all the important flight data in the pilot’s field of view.
These optical coatings are also used in “head up display” systems used in aircraft and, in particular, fighter jets. The coatings are applied to a special piece of glass which is then mounted into the cockpit. This means that the pilot can see all of the critical flight information presented on the glass display in front.
Artemis also makes laser protection filters that safeguard the occupants of military vehicles from high-powered lasers used on the battlefield. The business has a long history of supplying laser protection filters to Governments around the world.
Another product that the manufacturer’s highly skilled technicians create, is the safety filters that are built into surgical equipment used by surgeons during laser eye surgery.
Types of STEM related Job Roles at Artemis include: Optical coating technicians, production technicians, design engineers, process engineers, quality engineer, quality inspector, mechanical design engineer, maintenance engineer, manufacturing engineer.
Did you know?
Artemis Optical has evolved over a 200 year period; from a manufacturing optician in 1829, to inventing new types of camera lenses in the late 1800s, and now to creating protective coatings for advanced lenses today.
The company is recognised as Pioneers of Photonics for over 60 years. Photonics is the science and technological application of light particles.
Head Up Displays have been used on aircraft for many years and early versions were used for gunsights on the famous Spitfire of World War Two.
To acknowledge our success in exporting our products to other countries, Artemis Optical was awarded a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2022.
