Bandvulc's ability to recycle truck tyres is kinder to the environment than manufacturing tyres from new.
Each time a truck tyre is retreaded, it saves 68 litres of oil, 30kg of rubber, 20kg of steel and 60kg of CO2.

Many quality truck tyres can be retreaded more than once, which means the total life expectancy of one tyre could be over 375,000 miles – that's 15 times round the world!

Over 70% of all UK grocery deliveries are made on Bandvulc tyres.

Bandvulc Tyres

Bandvulc (part of the Continental Group) takes worn-out truck tyres (known as ‘casings’) so they can be retreaded for reuse.  The tyres look brand new once they have undergone the process. Each tyre that Bandvulc retreads saves 80% of the materials required to manufacture a new tyre, therefore significantly reducing impact on the environment.

Bandvulc is one of the largest retreading organisations in Europe and deals with all the major logistics companies as well as most of the major supermarket chains.

Bandvulc needs skilled employees in a variety of speciality areas, which include;

  • Rubber Technology at BVMixing – this is where the company makes their own tyre compounds
  • Manufacturing Engineering – Bandvulc have designed and built much of their own equipment including robotics
  • Software Developers – the in-house team have built their own bespoke software for the fleets servicing operation and manufacturing/maintenance processes.
  • Apprenticeships: usually 2 recruited annually.
  • Work Experience Placements possible.

Keeping Trucks Safely on the Move

Bandvulc in the UK produces around 200,000 commercial retreads per year with more than 100 different patterns and sizes, including specialist applications. These retreads mean vehicles across a variety of sectors can keep moving in safe, cost effective, environmentally protective way.

New Technology and Concepts for Tyres

Bandvulc is known for introducing new concepts in tyre design such as the curbing band on its Wastemaster range of retreads, pictured here. This design offers extremely high protection against impacts from walls and curbs.

The company also pioneered the technology to incorporate coloured strips into the curbing band to give an early warning of problem wear and tear. These are now industry standard across the globe.

Specialist Tyres

Bandvulc designs and produces retreads for specialist tyres. Whether it’s tyres for Tanker Fleets, Yard Work, Winter Use or the Agricultural Sector.

This photo shows a tough on/off-road trailer tyre for the agricutural sector  – the retreads are designed to both easily eject the mud from the tyre but also to protect the soil for sowing.

Sustainable Production

A by-product of the retreading process is buffing dust. At Bandvulc this is collected and recycled for a variety of uses including new passenger car tyres and products including athletic surfaces and equestrian arenas.
