Oakmount engineers travelled over 100,000 miles in the past year installing and commissioning automation machinery, which is the equivalent to travelling 4 times around the world.

Oakmount installs enough power and networking cable each year to stretch from Plymouth to London and back 5 times.

Phil, the company's Managing Director set up the business from his garage in 2002. The business has greatly expanded over the years and is now planning its imminent move to a newly purchased 38,000 Sq. Ft. factory in Estover which is the equivalent to 14 Tennis Courts!

Oakmount apprentices are given the opportunity not only to work in the factories but also at our customers sites all around the country - even as far as Lockerbie in Scotland!

Oakmount Control Systems

Oakmount Control Systems designs and manufactures industrial control systems, control panels, automation machinery, jigs and fixtures and metal parts for individuals and companies alike, both in the UK and overseas.

For example, Oakmount manufactured the machinery that produces the medical parts that are used daily in clinics and hospitals. The company has also produced the control systems for the Rolls Royce Motor Company and has designed and manufactured automated production lines for multinational companies worldwide.

Oakmount is currently developing an autonomous vehicle which will be able to collect and deliver parts to different parts of their factory automatically. You can read more about Oakmount’s work below.

Example STEM Job Roles include: Mechanical and Electrical Design Engineers, Mechanical and Electrical Fitters, Electrical Installation Engineers, Precision Tool Makers, CNC Machinists, Welder / Fabricators.

Apprenticeships: Oakmount currently has 7 apprentices. Typically the company offers 2-4 apprenticeships yearly starting in September, mainly for Mechanical Fitting and Electrical Fitting. However occasionally apprenticeships in Fabrication, Stores and Admin are offered. Those who are interested in apprenticeships are invited to the factory to see what Oakmount do and their current projects.

Work Experience is possible.

One Year Undergraduate Placements are offered to a Plymouth University student each year.

Building Machines for a Variety of Uses

Oakmount produces machines that are used in a variety of sectors ranging from Defence and Military, Railway, Automotive to Food and Beverage and many more.

The company has built machines for testing Vehicle Brake Pads, Automatic Inspection, Seed Placement, Food Production Lines, Robot Welding, Pick & Place Robots, Poka Yoke jigs and Fixtures, Railway Crossing Posts and many more! 

Robotic Capabilities

To show some of the capabilities of Oakmount’s robotic work in a fun way – the team programmed their Techman Robot to make a cup of tea!

Oakmount are able to programme robots to do many different things i.e work as part of a production line, work with other robots, or work alongside people safely.

One Big Oakmount Family

The business is family run, in more ways than one. Phil works with his wife, daughter and son in law. There are other family groups in the company including twin brothers and their nephew and a father and daughter.

It’s also a company where people tend to stay and grow with the business. The team looks to take on apprentices that are going to be with the company for an extended period and retain apprentices post completion of their apprenticeship. Oakmount’s very first apprentice is still working for the company – 11 years later. Their longest serving employee has been with the company nearly 16 years but has worked with Phil for nearly 30 years.
